The Solitudes of the Ego

The collection is an immersion into the deepest intimacy, an introspective journey that fragments and recomposes the emotional states arising from self-examination. Slender, bare figures populate this inner universe. Hollow, deliberately bulky, forms manifest their fragility. Human interaction is the catalyst that brings them to life. The repetitive process of adding and subtracting metal is central to the meaning of the work. A constant interplay between tangible form and mental perception is at play.

The 'drops', usually discarded as insignificant, are transformed through aggregation into a cohesive entity enveloping the figures. Merging into a unified whole. , demonstrating that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This fusion of diverse elements seeks to create a visually striking experience that mirrors the cyclical nature of introspection itself, where emotions appear and vanish, and patterns of thought continuously emerge and dissolve.

Going beyond, imagining new dimensions of human experience to learn from shadows, falls, and shortcomings, is what Gaspare Como’s work invites us to do. The artist does not create a simple chair but rather a welded steel design object that rebels against its original function due to its unexpected tilt. The sculpture deceives the viewer while simultaneously highlighting the transformative potential of the environment. *Camurrìa*, from which the piece takes its title, is a term used by Sicilians to describe an annoyance or nuisance. For the artist, however, it can become a stimulating vibration that disrupts tranquility, leading, like in a domino effect, to a cascade of reflections and transformations of reality. It is not a comfortable and reassuring seat, but rather an incentive to explore the unknown.

The technique suggests a contrast between the rigid and the organic, highlighting the imbalance of a condition alternating between despair and courage.
